The 6th
Renewal of the KPMG Squash League
(L-R) Major. John Nelson, President JSA, Raymond Donaldson, Tournament Director, Patrick Chin ( KPMG’s Representative) The 6th renewal of the KPMG’s Squash League served off on Thursday June 7th at the Liguanea Club, New Kingston. At the launching ceremony held on Tuesday June 5th, KPMG’s representative, Senior Partner Patrick Chin, presented the Sponsor’s cheque of $100,000.00 to Major John Nelson, President of the Jamaica Squash Association (JSA). Several representatives of the 16 teams, along with their supporters, were present at the brief ceremony which was held at The Liguanea Club. This year’s league, under Tournament Director, Ray Donaldson, will again be using the Handicap format; with scoring to 21 points under the point-a-rally system. Teams are comprised of 4 players inclusive of a reserve. Handicaps are determined by the JSA. Matches are played each Tuesday and Thursday at the Liguanea Club, UTECH, Constant Spring Golf Club and UWI courts. There are no age restrictions and with the handicap format, we have seen spirited competition between young and old, seeded and unseeded teams such as, Sharks, Orcas, Dolphins, Screaming Eagles, UECTH Cubs and River Rats. The Points table show current leaders, UTECH Knights on 14 points , followed by What Lef and Terminators on 10 points each, Satsun on 8 points, with the rest scurrying to overhaul the leaders.
The Tournament is slated to end the second week
in August, just prior to the Caribbean Area Squash Championships (CASA), the
region’s bi-annual international squash tournament, being hosted by the JSA,
at the Liguanea Club.
